Any yacht carrying more than 12 passengers is considered a “passenger yacht” and is subject to additional regulations and requirements (SOLAS Convention, ISM Code, ISPS Code and MLC 2016 Convention). The specific rules vary depending on the yacht's location and the type of operation it is engaged in. Still, passenger yachts generally must adhere to strict safety standards and carry higher insurance coverage.
Passenger yachts may also be subject to regular inspections by government agencies to ensure they comply with all applicable regulations. Additionally, the crew of a passenger yacht must hold appropriate licenses and certifications, and the yacht must be equipped with safety equipment and emergency procedures in place.
Any vessel of any kind, regardless of its mode of propulsion, whose hull length (LH) is greater than 24 meters, with a gross tonnage of less than 3,000 GT and the capacity to carry up to 12 passengers, not counting the crew, intended for pleasure boating, tourism, leisure, the practice of sport or non-professional fishing, used by its owner or by any other people through lease, passage contract, assignment or any other title.
Any vessel of any kind, regardless of its means of propulsion, with a hull length (LH) between 2.5 and 24 meters, measured according to the criteria established in the UNE-EN ISO 8666 standard, used for sporting, leisure, and boating training or training purposes recreation, even when exploited for profit.
